Changes to Evictions and Notice Periods

The UK Government has announced that from 1 June, notice periods in England that are currently 6 months, will reduce to at least 4 months.Notice periods for the most serious cases will remain lower:• anti-social behaviour (immediate to 4 weeks’ notice)
• domestic abuse in the social sector (2 to 4 weeks’ notice)
• false statement (2 to 4 weeks’ notice)
• over 4 months’ accumulated rent arrears (4 weeks’ notice)

The New Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards

New Energy Efficiency Standards will be effective from 1st April 2018, following recent legislation changes, which will mean it will be unlawful to let residential or commercial properties with an EPC Rating of F or G (i.e. the lowest 2 grades of energy efficiency).  The onus will be on landlords to ensure the measures are in place.
